Welcome to the future of art, a new way of seeing, and a new art form: Intaglio Relief.
Relief is a carved surface. Carving a flat surface increases its surface area and increases the amount of visual information that reflects off that surface. And that increase in surface adds 3 dimensional information which the eye processes holographically. Intaglio relief uses a negative surface to create a positive holographic image. The holographic nature of my intaglio relief images cannot be transmitted by the camera and require direct observation of the art itself. So bear in mind that photos on this website can only hint at how the your eyes and brain respond to these intaglio relief images.
Since 1970 I have been exploring the perceptual basis of art, What we see, how we see it, and how we interpret it. In 1975 I broke/fell through the flat surface of painting into relief, a new and unexplored visual landscape that exists between two and three dimensions, Where light and color are independent. Where I can find and create real illusions. Since 1996 I have concentrated on intaglio (negative) relief because it creates a dichotomy between image and surface, a new way of seeing.
If anyone wants to buy a relief, original or edition, contact Cross Rip Gallery (info above). Failing that email me. Richard Perry
