My figure drawings are done in group settings or in my studio. When drawing a new subject I usually start with portrait to get insight into the person, which informs my later drawings. Many of my larger figure drawings are on yellow tracing paper which comes in 2 and 3 foot wide rolls which allows me to begin in charcoal and finish in graphite or carbon pencil.
Since my intaglio reliefs are the mirror image of the positive clay original, I used tracing paper to reverse the image by turning the drawing over so the final intaglio relief done from the drawing would correspond to the original drawing. I sometimes take a digital photograph of the drawing and reverse the image on my computer.
